Comfortable Bull

Appearance is important you should dress for the the setting.  In my last post I mentioned an encounter with a street person who obvioulsy wanted everyone to dress like he does. Unfortunately his message seems to be  being taken seriously and has a large following.  In the past couple of years I have attended business meetings where folks come dressed in old jeans and polo shirts some with holes in them almost always frayed collars. At more than one gathering I mentioned the sloppy attire and the refrain was " Hey I want to be comfortable" .  Having worn jeans to work for many years I can tell you they are not the most
comfortable attire nor even a distant second. I wear jeans every day for chores, they are protective. Proper sized dress slacks and a sport shirt are very comfortable. Even work uniforms are more comfortable and better looking. Guys when you come to a biz meeting with baggy jeans exposing your crack I gaurantee you no one wants to see it. You may think it is comfortable and cool but to the rest of the world you are repulsive. I' want to be comfortable"  is a bunch of bull and you know it, and by the way that 3 day beard you think is cute screams I'm immature and begging for attention. Either grow a beard and keep it neatly trimmed or shave. By the way it would be nice if you would bathe daily also. There is a time and a place to be a smelly bum. It is when you are out camping by yourself or home alone for the weekend.  When attending biz meetings or social gatherings, even stopping for a beer at the local pub bathe and dress nicely. No one except other slobs want to do business or socialize with a slob. End note-- if all of your friends are slobs it is time to get new friends.

Keeping up Appearances

Clothes do not make the man but they do send a message. A couple of evenings ago I went to Carson Street in Pittsburgh for dinner.  Carson Street is a fun place with a large variety of eating and drinking establishments. Some upscale, others midscale. While my daughter was getting a parking pass a fellow approached me and said what are you doing down here on the South side all dressed up? You don't belong  down here looking like that. I was not dressed up. I was wearing a sport shirt and dark slacks. I glanced around and noticed several other folks dressed casualy also. The fellow who was chiding me was wearing jeans, workboots, a flannel shirt and carrying a back pack. To him I looked like a fancy businessman out sluming (his words). Too me he looked like a homeless street person (my thoughts) and I expected him to ask for money to help him out. Too my suprise he just went into a mini rant albeit a pleasant one on how people should dress down, and enjoy a walk in the rain. Your appearance sends a message to folks long before they are close enough to speak with you. Opinions are formed by observing your appearance. For all the fellow knew I could have been a homeless person dressed neatly looking for a hand out, as was the fellow who approached me at the parking pass station  the last time I visited the South side. For all I knew he could have been a banker dressed like a bum to get a reaction like a banker I know who ocasionaly does  to see how it feels. My tag line for years has been "Everything about you is a form of communication" Ask yourself what message am I sending? People will treat you differently based only on appearance.

King Pessimist

The attitude of a leader is infectious.  I once knew a fellow who could have been named King Pessimist King Pessimist coached little league teams for 13 years during which time his team's best year won 2 games. He always blamed the kids, their parents, and the other coaches for his bad teams.  When he lost a game he would yell at the kids, blame the parents for not practicing with the kids and criticize his fellow coaches for bad coaching. I asked the fellow year after year if perhaps it was his negative pessimistic attitude that might be the problem. He said absolutely not. It was the kids, their parents and the other coaches that caused his long string of dismal seasons. The fact is that it was King Pessimist't negative attitude and actions that caused the problem. The kids on his team picked up on his negativity and performed accordingly.
The attitude and actions of a team leader will determine the performance of the team. If you want your team to perform well, you as a leader must have a positive attitude . You must praise your team even when they lose and  let them know you have faith in them to go out and be winners next time. Successful leaders have positive attitudes, show faith in their team, praise individuals for good performance and encourage everyone to do their best everyday.

Born Leaders

The statement is often made" he was a born leader".The only born leaders are kings and queens who inherit the title by birth right. These born leaders have to be taught how to lead. Leadership is a learned set of skills. There are many different  types of leadership.   I am currently working on a new project with other experts to develop a highly educational fun filled event that combines humor, motivation and time tested leadership techniques to develop extraordinary leadership skills. Watch for updates.

Welcome to the show

Tudors Total Effect Talk Show first episode opening comments.

Hello Ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the show.My name is Jim Tudor. I would like to begin todays’ program by thanking my good friend Dave Anthony, president of Metro Cities radio group for making this program possible. Dave and I met several years ago when internet radio was in its’ infancy. Dave had a dream of what high quality internet programming should sound like and began to experiment. Through the years I have had the privilege of coaching Dave and watching his dream evolve. Daves’ story is a perfect example of how to turn an ordinary business into an extraordinary business that stands out in a crowd.

I would also like to thank my wonderful wife Coleen for her support, patience, and the many hours of hard work she has put in helping Dave and me reach this milestone. Coleen’s unique insight and unwavering positive attitude went a long way to helping make this program possible.

My daughter Joanne the Information technology wizard has also been an indispensable part of the team. Thank you Joanne for your infinite patience and all the extremely valuable tips you gave us. We could not have done this without you.

Some of you may be wondering why I have taken the time to thank my team members on the air on the opening show. The answer is—because without the co-operation, hard work and dedication my friend and family put into this adventure I would not be talking to you today. The concept of team work is a very important subject we will go into detail in on future shows. One of the most difficult things a person must learn is, regardless of how great you think you are, you cannot do anything great on your own. It takes a team to accomplish great things.
